A federal judge has overruled a lower court’s order requiring the Trump administration to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to Maryland by midnight Monday.

The temporary order was issued hours before Abrego Garcia was scheduled to be returned home after the former MS-13-affiliated man was mistakenly shipped to a notorious El Salvadoran detention center.

Top officials admitted the deportation was a mistake, but they’ve dragged their feet in reuniting him with his wife and family in Maryland.

Abrego Garcia had previously been granted withholding of removal by an immigration judge back in 2019—meaning the government was barred from deporting him to El Salvador due to safety concerns, according to court documents.

But on March 15, the federal government sent him there anyway, calling it an “administrative error,” according to the filing.

On Monday, after the US Supreme Court's temporary administrative stay blocking the district court's order, Attorney General Pamela Bondi issued a short statement.

"We welcome this stay from the Supreme Court as we continue to fight this case and protect the executive branch from judicial overreach."

Bondi's statement was met swiftly with scorn on social media from those in opposition of the order.

"You sent someone to a foreign prison and are fighting to keep him there," one person wrote. "Fix it instead of doubling down. It's evil."

"When will we finally hold this administration responsible for the degradation of our rules of law?" another added. "We told you it was going to happen but you didn't believe us because you had your head shoved up your a--."

"To anybody that can hear my voice, help us by calling your legislators to bring awareness to my husband’s case and demand they do everything they can to bring Kilmar home," his wife, Jennifer wrote in a GoFundMe campaign, adding, "and protect all immigrant families, who too can also be disappeared, in the blink of an eye, like my husband was.”
